Letters Series: On the Harsh Book Against the Peasants

Join us for a series of informal discussions of various letters written as acts of witness in times of crisis. In this session we’ll be discussing Martin Luther’s An Open Letter on the Harsh Book Against the Peasants.

The Peasants’ War began primarily as an uprising in response to Luther’s works, but Luther condemned it in Against the Rioting Peasants. After criticism from friends begging Luther to offer a retraction, he wrote this open letter in which he argued that there was no theological justification for resisting governments. 1st Floor Conference Room.

A copy of the letter can be found here.
