Rev. Sandra Bottoms is a United Methodist clergyperson, an ordained elder (comparable to a PCUSA teaching elder) in the Virginia Conference. Sandra has served under appointment since 2002 in several area United Methodist churches, including as Associate at the Brandermill Church when Gordon was Lead Pastor (thus their excitement about “getting the band back together again!!”).
Sandra is a second career pastor…prior to entering the ministry full-time, she worked as a public servant in various management and program administration positions for Virginia Commonwealth University, and the Virginia Department of Corrections. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from James Madison University, a Master of Public Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Master of Divinity degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Additionally, she served as a Chaplain, and completed a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at the University of Virginia.
Sandra was born, raised, and resides across the river in Henrico County. She is “Mom” to her golden retriever, Amazing Grace (“Gracie”)…and, as a dog person, is still baffled by how she also ended up with several cats through the years (currently one named “Lacey”). Her most beloved title is “Auntie” to her nephew Jonathan, a Deputy with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office! Sandra enjoys the theatre, and is a long-time subscriber to the Richmond Forum. On most Saturdays in the fall, you’ll find her in Harrisonburg or Charlottesville cheering on one of her favorite football teams (Go DUKES and HOOS!!). When she gets the chance, Sandra likes to escape with friends to the Outer Banks or Smith Mountain Lake, and she considers the Urbanna Oyster Festival to be a National Holiday!
