A native of Richmond, Virginia, Douglas-Jayd Burn began serious study of the piano at age 18 and now holds degrees from the University of Arizona (DMA 2018), Hartt School (MM 2013) and Virginia Commonwealth University (BM 2007). Active as a soloist and collaborator, he involves himself in a wide variety of ensembles and performs an extensive range of repertoire. He has performed with members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Deutsch Oper Berlin, Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and the Richmond Symphony Orchestra.
Douglas is also a passionate educator and has served as an instructor at the University of Arizona and as a Teaching Fellow at the Hartt School.
The first American in his family, Douglas is the son of two classically trained ballet dancers from New Zealand and South Africa. He has enjoyed calling Chesterfield his home for twenty years, and graduated from Monacan High School where he was active in his choral and theatre programs. When he is not practicing or performing, one might see Douglas enjoying a ride on his motorcycle!
